New law will fine truck drivers for parking on right-of-ways in Orange County, Florida

A new law banning commercial trucks from parking on right-of-ways in Orange County, Florida, will go into effect next month. The change comes after residents in mixed-use neighborhoods complained about big rigs and large trucks parking along the street in the area. Commercial trucks are currently banned from parking in residential areas, but it’s still legal in mixed-use neighborhoods. Residents of these neighborhoods told local news that they witness drivers get dropped off and picked up at their trucks as a way to avoid paying for parking elsewhere. Residents also said the big rigs were an obstruction to the view and could decrease their property value. A recently approved law will have drivers face penalties for parking along any unincorporated county road right-of-way. The county has been passing out pamphlets to drivers, warning them of change that will go into effect November 2. Drivers who park on right-of-ways for an extended period of time will face a $150 fine per day. However, Trucks that are actively providing a service can still park in the right of way.
