[Recap] Powering the Future & Technical Education for Communities
Cumberland has partnered with Cummins, the Tennessee Trucking Association and a dozen other organizations to recruit and train future technicians.
On Thursday, July 22, 2021 we hosted a fundraiser benefitting McGavock Hich School’s Transportation Academy
The fundraiser focused on the recruiting and training of our next generation of diesel technicians. The TTA’s Young Professionals Council and TN Trucking Foundation have been invited to partner with the Cummins TEC initiative to raise in-kind donations of tools and supplies, internships, and employment opportunities. The Cummins Technical Education for Communities (TEC) is a global initiative that targets the technical skills gap through local vocational education programs.
The Fundraiser went awesome! We had a great turnout, raised over $10,000, initiated good conversations around how to get kids interested in our industry at a young age, like maybe a YouTube channel or some other social media platform.
Opening date for the TEC school is Sept 22. McGavock is thrilled to have our help and still needs professionals to speak to the Transporation Academy about job opportunities and what their day-to-day roles entail. We also had a number of companies sign up for intern opportunities.
